gifted programs

Thank you to all families who joined us for our Hearts & Minds Community Chat. It was great to be with you all and have the opportunity to share more about Henrico County's Gifted Identification Process. If you were unable to attend or would like a review of information, please check out the links below. Please note that referrals will be accepted only between October 27 and November 10. To refer, please email Shannon Hodges at srhodges@henrico.k12.va.us with your child's first and last name, teacher's name, and area(s) you wish to refer (English Language Arts, Math, or General Intellectual Aptitude - which indicates both language arts and math).

HCPS Presentation from our meeting that explains the county's process.

As a reminder, from the evidence listed below, we need a combination of any 4 to be supportive to recommend an identification for gifted services.

  • Nationally normed test

    • Percentile rankings of 96% or higher are supportive.

    • Please refer to Slide #8 in the presentation above that describes who

      will participate in testing

  • Classroom grades

    • A’s equated to a supportive piece of evidence for 2nd-5th grade

    • 4s equate to a supportive piece of evidence in KG and 1st grade.

  • Observation of performance task

  • Teacher Perception Inventory

    • Please note this is an inventory of gifted characteristics that is scored by the county and not something in which the teacher identifies direct support/non-support.

  • Parent questionnaire

    • Sent to each family who refers a child into the process
