The REES Art Department is excited to share our celebration of International Dot Day!
What is International Dot Day?
International Dot Day is a global event celebrated annually on September 15 that encourages creativity, courage, and collaboration, inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' book, The Dot. The day originated when teacher Terry Shay introduced the book to his class, leading to a worldwide movement for people of all ages to express themselves and realize their creative potential.
How are we celebrating here at REES?
All our students worked hard for the last 2 weeks in the art room to create a whole school collaborative "painting' that celebrates our creativity and leaving our mark on our community. Mrs. Giles introduced the book "The Dot," and then students looked at the work of abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky to explore how artist used color and line to show emotion and tell a story in their artwork.
Each REES Eagle worked to create a 6-by-6 mixed media painting that used color and lines to show their emotions at the start of the new school year. Several teachers and staff joined in the fun and created their own 6-by-6. All of their small pieces are now collected and displayed together as a large-scale school mural "painting' in the front hallway ready for International Dot Day. What a gift to our school!
We are grateful to Mrs. Giles and Ms. McMillian for organizing such a fun and impressive project!
