We know everyone is excited about the start of the school year. Regrettably, because of a significant electrical issue in our building, Henrico County Public Schools is postponing the first day of school for Rivers Edge Elementary until Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The HCPS facilities team is prioritizing this unexpected electrical system repair and will begin work this weekend to resolve it. Power and AC will be turned off for the duration of the work, which should be completed early next week. Everyone at REES understands that receiving this news on the Friday before school starts is disappointing for our families and staff, but this could not be avoided.
Although we are not able to welcome students back into the building on Monday, we will host two offsite events to bring our school community together. Families are invited to join us for a Popsicle Party with the Rivers Edge Team at the following times, based on their last name:

: Monday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Shady Grove United Methodist Church (4825 Pouncey Tract Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23059)
Last name M-Z:
Tuesday, Aug. 20, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church (4825 Pouncey Tract Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23059)
Additionally, bagged lunches will be available each day. You can pick up a meal regardless of your last name on both days.
Certainly, this is not the back-to-school kickoff that we had planned, but we have every confidence in our Rivers Edge school community and our ability to make this a fun and exciting experience for our students and families.
